Tuesday Might Feel Rough

Hi Reader,

Most of my clients are great about actually taking weekends off. You probably are too.

But here's what I sometimes forget: You might need a vacation from your vacation.

That first day back? My brain is sluggish, my body is slow.

Feeling slow on Tuesday morning doesn't mean you did anything wrong.

This is normal. This is human. And you can prepare for it.

Here's what I've learned about easing back into work mode:

  • Brain dump during the week before your break.
Get everything out of your head and onto paper. If ideas pop up over the weekend, jot them down or use a voice recording app too.
  • The afternoon before your weekend, don't just prioritize your Monday tasks.
Write down the actual first step for each one. "Email Sarah about scheduling the proposal meeting," not just "proposal follow-up."
  • Set your opening screen.
Leave your first browser tab already open to that first task. "Future you" will thank "present you."
  • Skip coffee for the first hour you're awake.
I know, I know. I love my coffee too, but caffeine can interfere with your body's natural waking up process. I start with a chickory tea, and then I feed our backyard animals. Starting with a gentle movement and getting morning sunlight jump starts your body in a healthier way than your favorite coffee drink.

    Goat hugs do wonders too.

How are you spending this weekend?

Whatever it is, give yourself permission to ease back in slowly on Tuesday.

Your best work comes from a rested mind, not a rushed one.

Have a wonderful Labor Day weekend (if you're in the U.S.) & let's keep supporting workers everywhere.

Gail

Hello Reader, If you’ve been feeling off-track or unsure about what you truly want, you're not alone. During a recent strategy session with one of my marketing clients, they shared how frustrated they felt about the direction of their business. “It just feels like I’m working to pay other people. I don't want to do this anymore.”I asked them the “magic question” and we aligned their target market, messaging, and marketing plan to who they really wanted to work with. In Episode 13 of the...

Hey Reader,It’s June. That strange halfway point between everything we thought we’d do and everything still possible. The past 7 years have thrown me for a loop. But today, I’m giving myself permission to dream again. One of my favorite grounding practices...
